SUFFERING

1. Core Meaning

Suffering is the experience of pain, loss, hardship, or sorrow in a fallen world.

Scripture treats suffering with profound realism and deep hope: God does not minimize suffering, nor is He absent within it.

Through suffering, God refines His people, reveals His presence, and accomplishes His purposes.

It includes:

• Physical, emotional, and spiritual pain

• Trials, persecution, and affliction

• Loss, grief, and disappointment

• God’s refining and sanctifying work

• Christ’s presence with His people in their pain

• Hope rooted in resurrection and future glory

Suffering is not meaningless—God meets His people in it and works through it.
