All About Me

Nathan Haddock - The Person Behind Christianity Explained

I’m not a theologian with all the answers.
I’m not a church insider with a platform.
I’m just an ordinary Christian who has spent most of his life asking honest questions — and helping others do the same.

Christianity Explained exists because many people struggle with church, Christianity, the Bible, God, and the language Christians use — often quietly, and often alone. This site is my attempt to make those things clearer, more accessible, and more honest.

How This Journey Began

I have always been the questioning type, seeking real answers to tough questions many fear to ask. I've also enjoyed helping others find answers and explain things in a way that not only makes sense to them but is actually useful.

To help me with this, in 1994, I went to Bible college.
It was there that I quickly discovered what I didn’t want to learn about Christianity.

I wasn’t interested in an accademic theology that  enabled me to pass exams but little else. I wanted to understand what was actually relevant — what helped people live, think, struggle, doubt, grow, and follow Jesus in the real world.

That tension sparked a lifelong curiosity about Christianity as it’s lived, questioned, and wrestled with — not just taught.

A Varied Path

Over the years, I’ve worked as:

  • A youth pastor in Paris

  • A charity worker

  • A writer and photographer

  • A strategist and project manager

  • A social media manager

  • And, improbably, a Sensory Science Taste Assessor
(yes — I really did get paid to eat ice cream and drink tea)

  •

Each role taught me something about people, communication, creativity, and perspective — all of which shape how I write about faith today.

I’ve written various blogs and "A Christian Thought for Today" for many years and have published several books exploring Christianity and its intersection with real human experience.

Outside of this work, I love travel, writing, creating, food, film, and photography — all reminders that faith is lived in ordinary, everyday places.

What I’m Trying to Do Here

This site isn’t about telling people what to think.
It is about helping people understand:

  • What Christians believe — and why

  • Why the Bible can feel difficult or confusing

  • Why Christians disagree with each other

  • How faith connects to everyday life

  • Why doubt, questions, and struggle are not the enemies of belief

I try to write alongside the reader, not above them.

I believe:

  • Faith should be honest enough to include struggle

  • Theology should serve people, not crush them

  • Questions are not enemies of faith and nor is science

  • God is not threatened by doubt, complexity, or pain

Much of Christianity Explained grows directly out of those convictions.

The Values Behind Christianity Explained

This site aims to be:

  • Biblically grounded — taking Scripture seriously

  • Theologically careful — not simplistic or reactionary

  • Intellectually honest — open to complexity and disagreement

  • Pastorally sensitive — aware of real human experience

  • Clear over clever — understanding matters more than winning

Truth matters — but so does how we handle it.

Who This Site Is For

Christianity Explained is for:

  • Christians with questions they’ve never felt safe asking

  • People hurt or confused by church

  • Seekers who want clarity without pressure

  • Sceptics who want to understand Christianity properly

  • Anyone trying to make sense of faith in the real world

You don’t need to agree with everything here to be welcome.

An Invitation

If you’re certain, uncertain, curious, tired, questioning, or quietly searching — take your time here.

Read slowly.
Disagree thoughtfully.
Ask better questions.

Faith doesn’t grow by avoiding difficulty, but by engaging it honestly.

A Final Word

I don’t believe Christianity needs protecting from hard questions.
I believe it needs explaining — carefully, clearly, and kindly.

If this site helps you understand something a little better, think a little deeper, or feel a little less alone in your questions, then it’s doing what it was meant to do.

You’re welcome here.
