RIGHTEOUSNESS

1. Core Meaning

Righteousness is the state of being in right relationship with God—measured not by human standards but by God’s perfect holiness.

In Scripture, righteousness is both a status granted and a life lived: God declares His people righteous through Christ and then forms them into people who live righteously by the Spirit.

It includes:

• God’s perfect moral character

• Christ’s righteousness credited to believers

• A life shaped by justice, holiness, and love

• Obedience empowered by the Spirit

• Right relationships with God and others

Righteousness is not human achievement—it is God’s gift and God’s work.

2. Biblical Foundations

Romans 3:21–22
