A Beginner’s Bible Reading Plan

Purpose of This Plan

This reading plan is designed to help you:

  • get to know Jesus Christ

  • understand the big story of the Bible

  • build a steady and sustainable habit

  • read Scripture with understanding, not pressure

You do not need to rush.

It is better to read slowly and thoughtfully than to read large portions without understanding.

This plan is not a race.

It is a gentle pathway into a lifelong relationship with Scripture.

How to Use This Plan

  • Read one passage a day

  • Take 10–15 minutes if possible

  • Read with prayer and attention

  • Don’t worry if you miss a day — simply continue

  • Keep a notebook or journal if helpful

If something confuses you, that’s normal.

Understanding grows over time, not instantly.

Part 1: Meet Jesus (Weeks 1–4)

Goal: Understand who Jesus is, what He taught, and why He matters.

Week 1–2: The Gospel of Mark

Mark is short, fast‑paced, and direct.

Read:   Mark 1–8 (one chapter per day)

Week 3–4: The Gospel of John

John focuses on who Jesus is and what it means to believe in Him.

Read:   John 1–14 (one chapter per day)

Focus questions:

  • What do I learn about Jesus

  • What does Jesus say about Himself

  • How do people respond to Him

Meeting Jesus first gives you a centre of gravity for everything else in Scripture.

Part 2: The Early Church & the Christian Message (Weeks 5–7)

Goal: Understand what happened after Jesus’ resurrection and what Christians believe.

Week 5: Finish John

Read:   John 15–21

Week 6: Acts of the Apostles

Acts shows how the Christian message spread.

Read:   Acts 1–7

Week 7: Romans (Selected Chapters)

Romans explains salvation and Christian faith clearly.

Read:   Romans 1–8 (over 7 days)

Focus questions:

  • What is the gospel

  • What does it mean to be saved

  • What does new life in Christ look like

Part 3: Learning to Pray and Trust God (Weeks 8–9)

Goal: Learn how God’s people speak to Him honestly.

Psalms

Read one Psalm per day.

Suggested Psalms:

  • Psalm 1

  • Psalm 8

  • Psalm 23

  • Psalm 27

  • Psalm 32

  • Psalm 51

  • Psalm 63

  • Psalm 103

  • Psalm 139

  • Psalm 145

Focus questions:

  • What emotions are expressed

  • What do these Psalms teach about God

  • How can I use this as prayer

The Psalms teach you to bring your whole self to God — not just the tidy parts.

Part 4: Wisdom for Daily Living (Week 10)

Goal: Learn how faith shapes everyday life.

Proverbs (Selected Readings)

Read one chapter per day:

Proverbs 1–7

Tip: Proverbs are general wisdom, not promises.

Read them slowly and reflectively.

Part 5: The Story So Far (Weeks 11–12)

Goal: Understand where everything began.

Genesis (Selected Chapters)

Read:

  • Genesis 1–3 (Creation and the Fall)

  • Genesis 12

  • Genesis 15

  • Genesis 22

  • Genesis 37

  • Genesis 39–41

  • Genesis 50

Focus questions:

  • What is God like

  • How does God work through flawed people

  • How do these stories point forward

Genesis gives you the foundations of the biblical story — creation, calling, covenant, and God’s surprising patience.

Part 6: Living as a Christian (Weeks 13–14)

Goal: Understand how Christians are called to live.

Letters to Churches

Read:

  • Ephesians (6 days)

  • Philippians (4 days)

  • James (5 days)

Focus questions:

  • How should faith affect my attitudes and actions

  • What does Christian maturity look like

  • How does grace shape obedience

These letters show what everyday discipleship looks like in real communities.

Optional: After You Finish This Plan

You may want to:

  • read Luke more fully

  • begin a full New Testament reading

  • start a one‑year Bible plan

  • study one book slowly and deeply

  • read Scripture alongside a trusted study guide

There is no “next level.”

There is only deeper familiarity and steadier joy.

A Word of Encouragement

Bible reading is not about perfection or speed.

Some days will feel rich; others will feel dry.

Both are normal.

What matters is faithful return.

God works patiently through His Word.

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” — Psalm 119:105

A lamp shows the next step — not the whole journey.

And that is enough.
